[closed] you cannot have me, I own myself

WHO: Sina, Nari, Beleth, Korrin, Araceli, Thranduil, others as specified in Notes
WHAT: The bonding ceremony of the Firsts of Clans Dahlasanor and Ashara (Siuona and Sorrellean, respectively)
WHEN: mid-Bloomingtide
WHERE: the Planasene Forest
NOTES: Usually only Dalish would be allowed, but amnesty is being granted to close, trusted friends of the bride, including outclan Ashara and Sabrae, should they choose to accept it. Upon the insistence of Clan Dahlasanor, unaffiliated city elves will also be welcomed as long as they aren't disruptive. (OOC note: if you're unsure and your dude wants to go, PM me)

The day starts out rainy and grey, never a promising sight for an outdoor ceremony. But the Dalish do most things outside, and everyone will likely be too busy partying to care about it after the bonding ritual itself, so the festivities are set to begin right on schedule.

A clearing has been chosen by Keeper Thalia of Clan Dahlasanor, and the words are to be spoken right at the edge of the forest, under the shelter of trees but still fully incorporating the flowers of the field. This is a place of some significance to Sina's clan, a symbol of their flight from the plains to the forest, and of their new, strengthening relationship to Clan Ashara.

The clearing and surrounding forest are otherwise littered with aravels and tents, a gathering of clans
one of which eagerly anticipates their joining. Keeper Thalia, an active participant in preparations,
has made it clear that she will be officiating the ceremony alongside Deheune; Dahlasanor is being welcomed, not absorbed.

Sina has been quietly nervous for the entirety of the journey from Kirkwall, but as is her tendency, she comports herself with poise and says little on the upcoming nuptials. She's not unhappy. It's her duty, she's proud to do it, and more than anything she's intensely excited to see her clan again.

And let's be real, the party afterward is going to be a rager.

Contrary to what he might expect, the blushing and stammering seems to please the stranger. Or at the very least, the curve of her hands seems a little softer as she pats her work into place.

"What does it mean to you, to be with someone?" she asks casually, leaning back to scrutinize the ensemble.

It is at this point that Sorrel's instincts kick in. He glances, from his silent, predatory observer, back to the blond directly in front of him. As a mage, he's probably faced demons much fiercer and more frightening than this, but Sorrel can't actually recall any specific instance, at the moment.

"I'm sorry, I don't..." Everyone here knows who he is, of course. He's the poor bastard in the fanciest robe, Keepers aside, who may or may not be about to die, "What do you mean?"

Does he want to explain to these women, who are still basically strangers, that he is a virgin in nearly every sense of the word? No, no he does not. He's got enough shame on his plate, thank you.

The elf in front of him casts a glance to the one behind--amusement, some impatience--then returns her gaze to his face, one eyebrow slowly lifting.

"What kind of a bondmate will you be. You will get a bride who is sweet and constant, who loves the People and our history, and despite her travels knows little of the harder things in the world. She has a heart so pure the Beyond tries to snatch it for its own," she says, gesturing the area where the shard sits in Sina's chest. "She's not perfect, but she is to us. So. What does Sina receive today. Who is Sorrel, First of Clan Ashara?"

Sorrel stares. So this is... that. That talk. The one where they ask you your intentions, or threaten to cut your balls off it you hurt someone's heart? But this isn't that question, really, this isn't about a promise to do well, or to die trying your hardest. It's about Sorrel. Not even Sorrelean, just... Sorrel.

He opens his mouth, and the truth falls out.

"I'm not anything. I'm not even the first choice for Ashara's First, every other mage in the clan had to leave for me to get that. No one wants me except that their Keeper asked them to," He couldn't hold her eyes, and had to look away, swallowing thickly, "That's what I meant. I did kiss someone once, but that's all, nothing more. Everyone here knows I'm being given a gift, just to be part of all this-- you can believe no one is asking Sina a question like that."

Ah, but he surely was selling himself here, wasn't he? At least it's honest. Sorrel reaches up to run a hand through his hair, stopped himself before he could muss Beleth's work, then sighs and scrubs his palm along the scarred side of his face, instead.

"I'm sorry. That's probably not what you wanted to hear. I mean, I'm not a totally hopeless healer, I think. I can cook. I'm... trying."

"It's exactly what I wanted to hear," she replied, something changing in the timbre of her voice. She'd stopped smiling, but somehow that was... better.

"You and I carry truths," she said, tapping her forehead where the wings of Dirthamen's raven spread. "Some of them are our own. And you offered me some of yours without hope that it would gain you anything." A flash of wry amusement lit her eyes briefly. "Actually, you offered it thinking it would lose you something. Healing can be taught. History can be taught. That can't." She crossed her arms, shifting her stance. "Sina's always been wanted. We loved her so strongly we made her fragile. Now she's where we can't cushion her, and she'll need someone who's already taken a beating at her side. Not to coddle her, but to help her learn how to be strong against that beating without becoming hard on the inside. You're giving her something we can't, and that's worth a great deal to Dahlasanor. Take her hand today knowing that the scales aren't as uneven as you think."
